Spring Auctions Showcase Part 8: Colorful Bracelets
From vibrant hues to a soft spring palette, the auction houses have displayed an impressive range of color in jewelry this season.
On April 17, Sotheby’s New York auctioned a Marcus & Co. platinum, colored stone and diamond bracelet. Circa 1930, the bracelet showcases a carved ruby, sapphire, and emerald leaves and is set with approximately 19.00 carats of baguette, square, round, old European, and single-cut diamonds. The piece fetched $118,750, more than its estimated value of $75,000 to $100,000.

That same day, Sotheby’s New York auctioned a Cartier platinum, colored stone, diamond, and pearl piece. The exquisite bracelet dates to 1930 and features an openwork band set with both carved and cabochon rubies, emeralds, and sapphires with 7.00 carats of baguette, old European, and single-cut diamonds. An unusual component of this ‘Tutti Frutti’ bracelet is the incorporation of eight button-shaped pearls. The bracelet’s most prominent feature is a distinguished, carved emerald drop attached to the clasp. The bracelet sold for three times the estimated value at an astounding $1,445,000.
Christie’s auctioned its own Cartier ‘Tutti Frutti’ bracelet in Geneva on May 15. This bracelet, circa 1928, is described by Christie’s as a “pave-set diamond branch enhanced by carved ruby, emerald, and sapphire leaves, with cabochon detail.” This piece had an estimated value of $820,804 to $1,225,876 and sold for $1,090,640.
